Join Denise Zubizarreta at the PRSA 2026 Biennial Conference, taking place September 11–13, for From D.R.I.P. to Decolonial Flow: Visual Propaganda, Counter-Narratives, and the Reprogramming of Puerto Rican Memory.
In this presentation, Zubizarreta examines how visual propaganda operates not simply as persuasion but as psychological infrastructure, shaping perception, memory, identity, and political possibility across generations. Drawing from her D.R.I.P. framework, Disinformation, Repetition, Internalization, and Propaganda, she explores how colonial power embeds itself through images, symbols, media, and narrative repetition, ultimately influencing how Puerto Ricans understand themselves, their history, and their relationship to the colonial state.
This session interrogates the role of visual culture in reinforcing colonial loyalty while also highlighting the growing power of counter-narratives, cultural resistance, and decolonial storytelling. From historic propaganda campaigns to contemporary digital media, participants will examine how memory is manufactured, contested, and reclaimed.
