About the event
Join author, scholar, and interdisciplinary artist Denise Zubizarreta for a special book reading, discussion, and signing celebrating the release of Colonial Stockholm Syndrome: Navigating Identity, Loyalty, and Resistance in Puerto Rico.
In this timely and provocative work, Zubizarreta explores the psychological and emotional complexities of colonialism, examining how systems of domination shape identity, loyalty, memory, and resistance across generations. Drawing from history, critical theory, lived experience, and cultural analysis, Colonial Stockholm Syndrome offers a powerful framework for understanding why oppressed communities may internalize and defend the very structures that harm them.
This event will feature a live reading from the book, followed by a discussion on colonial power, propaganda, psychological survival, and the ongoing realities facing Puerto Rico today. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A and connect directly with the author during a post-event book signing.
